I bought the printer to support my work with a local credit union. It usually gets used for everyday printing, plus an annual mail shot which requires printing 1500 - 2000 pages of statement and covering letters.

Pros: Really fast compared to my old Officejet R45 which has given me great service but is no longer fully supported under Windows 7. And the duplexor is fabulously labour and time saving. Ink supplies are very cost effective, give an extremely low cost per page using the XL cartridges.

Cons: The biggest problem is the lack of a manual feed slot for printing odd-sized documents like envelopes. I have to use an old HP 959c for that purpose. Also, I had some driver problems, probably my fault, which caused problems when using the duplexer with part of the page being missed off. I got some great support from HP Customer Service who advised reinstalling the drivers from scratch - this has cured the problem for the last couple of days, let's hope it's a...

Review : doesn't do what it says on the tin
We have used HP officejet printers for years because they do double-sided copying scanning and printing and no other manufactuer seemed to.
This one doesn't! It says it does full duplex but it will only work if you print a document from the computer. It won't do duplex as a standalone unit.
A backward step. HP were really unhelpful: they told us first that it could do it but we had to get the details from the internet, then they admitted that this model could not.

Note: if you want a printer that can photocopy from a two sided document and can scan from a two-sided document then go for HP 8500A PLUS - the 'plus' bit is important. We have now got one of these and it is doing everything that we want.

When looking at the spec watch out for 'two sided printing' vs 'two-sided printing and copying'.
