Review : Help with setting up this product for other customers
I recieved this hard drive for Christmas and have just set it up after reading all the reviews on Amazon. I found these very helpful and would like to share my experience with this product.

It's pretty easy to set up. I plugged it in and my Windows 7 computer said there was no driver for this device, but it still read it. When you open the hard drive location, it has all the pre-loaded software on. After reading the other reviews about it, I must admit that I was a bit panicked, but I decided to steer clear of the software and use the hard drive as a drag and drop device, the same as my USB stick, so that I can use it at college or work.

I decided to copy the pre-loaded software onto a DVD disc, should I ever need to use the software. I would recommend this and also to print a copy of the user guide which is pre-loaded.

As I've come to expect from WD, these drives are excellent, I have two 2TB ones (this new model) and two 1TB ones (the old 'elements' model that was longer with the rubber edges on back and front).

Was a big fan of the older model of 'elements' drives, and so was concerned they had tried to profitize and so made a cheaper more tacky 'elements' model. Anyway, its not the case, solid as a rock, reliable, quiet, quality feel, and looks better too. Buy them now!

Review : Works perfectly in my mid-2009 Macbook Pro 13"
I've been upgrading my MacBook Pro recently as it's getting on a bit (bought in Nov 2009). Had been a bit nervous about fiddling around with the hardware in it but upgraded the RAM recently and that was easy, so decided to have a go a the hard drive too. Again, really easy. This hard drive works absolutely perfectly, my MBP was already faster from the RAM upgrade but unexpectedly the hard drive upgrade made it run faster still. Applications like iPhoto now just pop up almost instantly and retrieve photos really quickly.

Now have loads of space and a faster laptop! Seems to slightly drain on the battery more than before as another poster mentioned, but similarly I've found that's true for doing stuff like sorting photos and web browsing but actually watching video seems to be the same if not slower. So a small trade up but totally one worth taking in my opinion.

My initial impression was that his was a poor quality product. The instructions were some of the worst I have come across and the mains adaptor fell apart in my hands. There is therefore a question of electrical safety. I did mange to clip the adaptor together and now believe it is safe, if used with caution. After a number of trials and errors, working out how to find my way around the menu I managed to scan and save images. Comparing these with a rather old but high quality slide scanner they were of higher quality. The colours reproduced with this device were close to the original requiring little correction. I am therefore satisfied that the device performs as specified but has some questions as to the build quality.

12/8/12 - After much research on the web, I recently I bought a Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE Film Scanner from Amazon to convert my old 35mm slides and some negative film to digital format.

The item was delivered promptly and upon opening the box was just what I required, a scanner with a small footprint. All good so far.

Following the instructions I installed the printer drivers and associated software, SilverFast 8 SE Plus processing package. Silverfast 8 SE Plus was one of the main reasons I bought this item as it comes highly praised.

The scanner worked fine with the supplied drivers and Plustek scanning software, but when I attempted to use Silverfast 8 SE Plus the problems began. Basically the program won't run. Thinking that I had perhaps made an error in the installation procedure I uninstalled and reinstalled the complete package. I ordered this Film and Photo scanner on 3rd February and received it from Germany via UPS at lunchtine on the 6th February, although Amazon told me it would be delivered on the 11th Feb. Superb service!!
I have used other 35mm scanners with not very good results (ie poor colour mostly), however with this scanner I have had very good results so far. The scanner uses a digital camera and the clarity and colour of the scans are good and is quick to scan (approximately 2 seconds per scan), although the files can be enhanced through software like Picassa 3.
All in all I can say for the price I would suggest this is a good value product that produces good results.

This is a must have whether you are at work or at university.. Very easy to use with clear scans all the time, if you have an iPad you can download an app called Readiris which works with this but you will also need the Apple camera connection kit (please just get the Apple one if you don't want a headache).
Not only do you receive the scanner you get a 2Gb SD card, computer software plus a hand carry case. It is handy when in the library scanning through books and you just need certain pages of information and don't want the whole book.

Review : Scans journals and magazines well, books need more thought
Simple and intuitive to use, I am really happy with it on A4 sheets and journals. This is a tool requiring skill and advice to make sure the scan is effective when you want to scan a bound volume.

Have a look at the amazon.com reviews for VuPoint Solutions Magic Wand Portable Scanner, an identical product. There is plenty of good advice there.

For paperbacks use a white card that is placed underneath the page to be scanned. The scanner glides across the card, and most important the roller is in contact with the card so that the edge of the book is scanned. Normally the roller drop off the edge of the book and any print such as page numbers at the edge will be lost. The white card also helps the scanner when the paper is thin and print from other pages bleeds through.

Scan the pages taking the scanner from the spine outward, and scan all odd pages before turning the book around to do the evens. Put a heavy object abutting the book so that the scanner...

Wanted a scanner to transfer all my non digital photo's of my children taken pre 2001. I did quite a bit of research and this seemed the simplest option. I have now scanned about 300 photographs ( with probably 2000+ still to go )the photo's are simply inserted into the machine as you would do with a laminator. They are scanned onto SD card in a second or so, I bought a 2 gb card from Amazon and this seems easily up to the job. I have never yet filled the SD card but after scanning a 100 or so photographs I simply connect the scanner to my PC using the USB cable provided and drag and drop the photographs into Windows. Th quality of the scans would not be up to professional standards but is perfectly adequate to convert family snapshots into digital format and I would definately recommend it for this purpose. The only other point I would make is that I used an ordinary SD card as no where could I find any menntion that this scanner supports SDHC...

Bought this after much deliberation over slide/film scanners and after reading the review, plumpted for this to scan in all my late fathers slides etc. I must say what a superb piece of kit, I second everything that the first reviewer has wrote about it, it is so easy and quick to use, after charging up the mobile phone sized battery and installing a SD card your away to go, even able to alter the exposure valve and primary colours of each slide and the scanned output is amazing. Found some 46yr old negative strips looking in a very poor state, and after scanning I am amazed with the quality even with NO post photo touching up - yet. Don't want to give up using it!! Review : A superb scanner that does the job and then some
I've used Epson scanners for years and been very pleased with their performance. However, the V750 is not just good, it's outstanding. I wanted a scanner that would do a good job of scanning 35mm trannies as well as the usual stuff, but I couldn't justify the cost of a dedicated film scanner. None of the scanners I've had in the past have been any more than passable in this respect, but the V750 Pro does a remarkable job, producing crisp scans that rival those of all but the really high-end film scanners (it does everything else pretty damn well too). My only real gripe is the fact that the fluid mount is not included with the V750 Pro in the UK - it has to be obtained separately from Epson, and nowhere on their website are we told how to do this (at least, I haven't been able to find anything). However, if you contact Epson UK they will send you the mount free of charge - but I had to do some searching on the internet to find this out, eventually making this discovery via an online...

Review : Good but slow process for slides
I recently found numerous boxes of slides at my parents house and decided to scan them in.
After reading several reviews, this scanner was one of the better rated, especially as you can scan 16 slides at a time.
The image quality is very good, but the time to scan is slow. It makes one pass to show a "contact sheet" and small images, then when you press save, it scans each slide individually again.
I haven't timed it accurately but talking 5+ mins.

Also, the Drivers CD for Max OS X isn't supported, but its easy enough to download from the HP website.
Finally criticism is naming/numbering. When you save the images it starts as image.jpg, image1.jpg, image2.jpg etc.
Once you have scanned 16 slides and load the next batch, it says "file already exists, replace?".
Would have been better if it carried on, i.e. image17.jpg. (Only a small gripe)

If you have the time to spare, then for the quality, very good.

The scanner itself is fine. Does exactly what it says on the tin, and I have 30 years of kodachromes, velvias and negatives of various types to chomp onto the pooter. My missis doesn't quite know what my birthday present was letting her in for - middle-aged-bloke-with-a-computer-widow!

Silverfast Ai is frustrating to install. It took an hour of big-red-switches, reboots and retries before the software suddenly found the scanner. Persist with it. The interface is awful, the manual worse, but once mastered it delivers a rich set of features.

Important point to note. The colour profiles apply only to negatives - so your velvias will still contain red-faced people basking under purple-tinged skies.
